Hazeltine to South Platte River Spillway

This project constructed a spillway between Denver Water’s Hazeltine Reservoir and the South Platte River, to improved water management and flow control.

The scope of work involved extensive excavation using cut to fill and cut to stockpile methods to achieve the proposed grade and ensure alignment of the spillway. To stabilize and protect the slopes, High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat was applied, enhancing erosion control and long-term durability. The project also included the construction of a 1,600 linear foot concrete spillway control wall, designed to manage water flow effectively and maintain structural integrity over time.

AWC completed the project by adding a new Class 6 road base to create a functional road over the spillway, ensuring accessibility and operational efficiency. This effort addressed both the structural and environmental needs of the site, supporting Denver Water’s operational goals.
