This project focused on improving drainage infrastructure along I-70 between the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel and Silverthorne. Specifically, 51 culverts were inspected, cleaned, and documented, with recommendations provided for their ongoing maintenance and functionality. The project also included lining 11 culverts identified as candidates for rehabilitation using cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) methods, with approximately 900 linear feet of 24-inch culverts successfully lined. Additionally, modifications were made to gutter pans and inlets along the same drainage system to enhance overall performance and water management capabilities.
To improve project efficiency, a water truck was utilized to support the vac truck during cleaning operations. By eliminating the need for frequent trips to dump and refill the vac truck, this adjustment significantly reduced downtime and maximized productivity. This measure saved approximately three hours per day, allowing the cleaning operations to proceed more effectively and with minimal delays. The use of this value engineering approach contributed to the overall success of the project by optimizing resources and minimizing disruptions.
