Relief Well and Toe Drain Collector Pipe Rehab – Cherry Creek Dam, Colorado
The underdrain and relief well system of the Cherry Creek Dam had not been cleaned since the dam’s construction and had accumulated sediment in certain areas.
This project involved the inspection, cleaning, and repairing of over 13,000 linear feet of underdrain along the face of the dam as well as the installation of four new access manholes, drainage and grading work along the access roadway, culvert installation, and site restoration.
The inspection and cleaning of the underdrain system posed a significant challenge as the distance between access manholes precluded using conventional water jetting techniques. To successfully clean the underdrain system, AWC moved between manholes in an iterative process ensuring that it moved all the debris to the downstream manhole for removal.
