In September of 2013, Boulder County, Colorado experienced significant infrastructure damage due to a 500 year flood event. Lee Hill Drive just west of Boulder, CO, suffered significant damage when Fourmile Creek flows eroded a portion of Lee Hill Drive.
Boulder County contracted with American West Construction, LLC (AWC) to construct a retaining wall to support Lee Hill Drive and rebuild the roadway. AWC’s work included controlling Fourmile Creek flows to allow for the construction, construction of grouted curtail wall, construction of 3,500 square feet of concrete block gravity wall, installation of cast-in-place concrete barrier, asphalt paving, installation of a riprap and grouted boulders, and traffic control. Due to the nature of the work, AWC maintained one lane of Lee Hill Road throughout construction with a temporary signal.
